Another month has come and gone! Jacob is now 5 months old and still as cute as ever! I feel like he is learning so many new things each month I'm going to just have to start listing them... At Jacob's 5 month weight/height checkup we met with Dr. Ward who is the actual pediatrician. The other guy, AJ, we have
been seeing who is a Physician Assistant. After talking to him I felt a lot better because he told me he wasn't concerned about Jacob's weight and height and he thought that there must have been a mistake in his last height measurement because it just didn't look right. I told him I agreed. So Jacob weighed 15 lbs 2 oz and measured 25 inches tall. Dr. Reed said he looked good, had a good amount of fat on him and I didn't have anything to worry about! YAY! No more stressing about my milk supply!

to go in and turn him back to his side or back. But now he will sleep in any position. Back, side or stomach. And I love that it changes every night. He just sleeps the way that is comfortable to him at that specific time, which is exactly what I do! Then on Monday Jacob mastered sitting all by himself. He has been sitting all month, but he never really had it down and would tip over a lot. But on Monday he finally fingered it out and I now feel comfortable just sitting him in the middle of the floor and leaving him without worrying about him falling over. And it's so cute because when he starts to fall over he catches himself with his hands then pushes himself back up. On Tuesday Jacob accidentally got onto his hands and knees. I know... WAY to early for that! He
was on his back and was
trying to roll over but had his knees up to his chest for some reason.
When he finally did roll over he was on his knees, face-planting it onto
the ground. So he did what any other person would do and pushed his
arms up to get his face out of the carpet. And the result was, a nearly 5
month old sitting there on his hands and knees. He has only done it
that one time. Which I am fine with. I don't think I'm ready for a
crawler yet! Then on Wednesday Jacob started sucking his thumb. I had
known for awhile that he was going to be a finger sucker of some sorts,
but I didn't know which one he would pick in the end. But he has made it
clear that the thumb is going to be his choice and now likes to suck on
it more and more and more each day. I know this will be a problem in
the future. But right now I just think it's plain cute and I love it!
Even though he loves to suck on his fingers I don't think he's one of
those babies that has to put everything in his mouth. He does, but it's
not an all the time thing. He likes to just hold them a lot and look at
them. One thing Jacob has really been learning this past month is how to
control his body. He's figuring out how to move it andis constantly trying new things with it. He figured out how to roll over both direction, right and left and now wonders around the floor. He hasn't figured out he can use this as a type of transportation to get from point "A" to point "B" yet. But he will still just roll for fun and where ever he ends up, he ends up. Jacob also discovered his toes and likes to grab them. And we started him on solids. He doesn't seem to love them. It took awhile before he'd even eat them. And even now is just so-so about them. He seems to like the
oatmeal cereal more then the
rice though. Now that he's 5 months I'm going to start doing fruits and
veggies soon. Another thing Jacob does is open and close is hands
repeatedly ALL THE TIME! It's like his most favorite thing to do. And if
he sees Scott and I doing it then he'll copy us. It's pretty funny.
I've also decided that Jacob isn't a giggler. He smiles all the time.
But his giggles are few and in-between. Which is sad, cuz i love that
precious little giggle so much! He has giggled maybe 7-8 times is all. I
hope as he gets older he will do it more. Jacob went through a few phases this month past month that lasted about a week each. One of which was leaning his head to the side. He would just randomly do it. I think it might have been the same time he was learning to roll from his tummy to his back. The other was sticking out his tongue as well as blowing raspberries. Then sucking on his bottom lip. It was pretty cute. :)
So I think Jacob is going to be a gymnast or something when he
grows up. Whatever he wants to be he needs to have a muscular body to do
it because he spends all day working it out. Especially his core. All
day long Jacob can be found doing crunches. Like so...
Which is why he is able to do this...
I swear that kid had abs of steel. Which is one of the reasons why I think he was able to start sitting up so early. He just doesn't like laying down. He wants to be sitting up doing things. Just like he has from day one.
up before 4 hours. I'm hoping it will help him start sleeping longer. It's been working really well. Especially now that he sucks his thumb. He will only fuss for 5 to 10 mins at the most befre falling back to sleep. I'm still feeding him every 3 hours during the day and have now started feeding him 1 to 2 oz of cereal for dinner. I've started enjoying nursing more when Jacob is actually cooperating. I love the way he rests his little hand on my chest while he eats. Or fiddles with my shirt or my face. I just think it's so cute and intimate. That is what I really love about it.
Jacob's hair has really lightened up this past month. I feel like a lot of the red that was in it was his baby hair that looked red. Now that it has fallen out and other hair has grown in it's place it's a lot lighter. And not so red. The only part that hadn't fallen out and still looked quite red was the hair on the back of his head. But even now that his started falling out. So I guess we will see. Jacob's eyes are still that light gray. Scott says he loves the color of them right now and to him they look like the color of steel. We are both very excited and anxious to see what color they will end up being!
And here are just a few other random pictures from the past month! :)
